I’ve never been comfortable when I see a price tag around events/activities that claim to be about Jesus.
First, let look at God’s word
For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believe should not perish…
Not whosoever can afford it.
1 Tim 2: 3 – 4
This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4 who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.
2 Peter 3:9
The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.
According to God’s word, God wants to reach out to the souls of men and we claim to be God’s representative on earth no matter who it is, why then do we raise the bar and put a price tag thereby having only a select people who can come to your program!
I’ve shared on IG the video of James Jani looking closely at the practices of online Gurus and as we are seeing a rise of Christian online guru/pastors, I can boldly say that it is worse. Sigh!
It’s really sad to watch because it’s all done in the name of Lord and saviour Jesus.
I really cannot exactly say why people think it is okay to monetize the gospel but over time I have heard a few arguments;
“Oh! The Bible you are reading is it free?” My response is “is it God’s idea to sell the Bible?” It’s all man-made.
You’d also hear things like “You can’t value what you don’t pay for” Sigh! Thank God that we are not God because I can’t imagine all the things we get for free that we don’t value as humans.
“The event hall will not pay itself” Who said you have to use there? Do you really have to use a 1million dollars hall for your Jesus event? Jesus doesn’t need us to prove his excellence for him, all that part is for ourselves. Let’s minus the fact that we are so fixated on having a platform to preach that we don’t get our boots dirty.
I say the commercializing of Jesus is worse because it goes against everything Jesus preaches or every way he lived his life! The strategy (of the online gurus is not different from the Christian guru) is the same but the method is different. These people (‘Christians’) who do this will dangle you the fruits of their life (which is usually material or even having a lot of people who contact them that their lives have changed because of them) as a validation of them hearing from God or having access to God making you feel like you are not God’s favourite child because I mean, your own life is a mess and you need Jesus more every minute.
They build a ministry around ourselves from the insight they freely get from the holyspirit (because they ensure they tell us it’s from my time with the Lord that he gave them the strategy) then turn right back and charge N30,000 – $2,000 for access to sit and be discipled by them? How are we different from the ungrateful servant? [Matt 18:21-35] They say “You have access to Jesus” but they ensure they weave themselves into the equation so that you stil somehow end up thinking you need to still go through them to get that access to the father.
There are so many things that scream red flags, how do you know?
Anyone that doesn’t point you to Jesus…. RUN,
Anyone that makes you feel like they are God’s favourite….. RUN,
Anyone that makes you feel like their life is perfect and Jesus = No Problem… RUN,
Anyone that preaches DOWN at you…. RUN,
Anyone that is asking you for money to support them and they don’t have a legit source of income asides the ministry they are doing… I won’t say run but be wary,
Anyone you feel I am throwing a “shade” at, you should be wary 😂
Sadly, I can’t keep quiet. Heck! My motives might not even be right but it’s just sad to watch all of this happen. We know it hush hush in different corners that these things shouldn’t be but we don’t speak up but the danger is that the people that are looking from outside in will bunch everyone together but we need to stand for truth in private and publicly.
For the avoidance of doubt! Here are some things that should NOT be monetized in the name of JESUS!
• Gospel of Jesus.
• An event you claim Jesus tells you to put together for the liberation of his people
• Jesus as a marketing strategy
• Books about Jesus
• Books God tells you to write to liberate his people.
• Gift of the spirit as a school you can come and learn it from 😑 etc.
Why? Because again, it goes against everything Jesus represents.
Imagine, Jesus, having to charge his disciples to pour into them for the time he did, how many of them could’ve afforded it? Considering the fact that Jesus has premium content and he will not be cheap.
Freely have you received, freely give!!!! Matt 10:5-8
Ministry is for service. Ministry is for drawing men to Jesus. Ministry is to glorify God.
If you want to earn some money, get a job, start a business and let God bless the business then you can use the money for ministry. Simple!
